Remembering Christopher Hyde-Smith
When the British Flute Society was formed in June 1982, Chris was voted as our first Chairman, and we couldn’t have had a better person. He insisted at the outset that the Committee observed the correct procedures common in the UK of only addressing another member through the Chair. Occasionally, he corrected a committee member who didn’t observe this conduct. Because of his kindly but disciplined manner, the Society got off to a good start. Committee meetings aside, Chris worked behind the scenes to help establish BFS events, lectures and other meetings.
In the following years, the chairpersons varied, but Chris was undoubtedly the best. Thank you for all you did for us Chris!
Our thoughts go out to Jane too whom my deepest condolences.
